Thank you for your continued support for Lisa Webb Bussell's secondary breast cancer journey. She's been greatly blessed by the outpouring of generosity and love from everyone. Besides the gofundme effort, there were some fun and uplifting fundraisers held at DHS in October. We wanted to share some of the volleyball photos and the pie-in-the-face video!

Since our first communication, Lisa resigned from her position at Olathe Medical and took a leave of absence from the Para position at De Soto High School. It has been a very overwhelming and confusing time with her protocol for fighting cancer in her spine and pelvis. Treatment for the metastasis required chemotherapy which immediately caused rapid weight loss, increased pain, and brain fog. Last week a pause in the chemotherapy regime was required to relieve pain using an effective method of palliative radiation therapy. This allowed Lisa to restore some of her appetite and energy. Still, there are ongoing fears, anxiety, and uncertainty on top of the physical.

The true reality of living with incurable cancer is that it is a roller coaster ride and it is an expensive trip. For secondary breast cancer patients, progress in how cancer is diagnosed, treated, supported, and cared for has been too slow for too long. Lisa is learning firsthand how difficult it is to be sick while also navigating the terms of disability, family leave, trusts, and protecting her assets in the midst of the health crisis.

It is one of Lisa's bold goals to educate, call for a greater understanding of secondary breast cancer, and promote helping those living with the disease to live the best life possible for as long as possible. We can help by demanding urgent fundamental and political changes in cancer care!

Lisa's needs will be ongoing as her cancer is not curable; it is going to require lifelong maintenance and it is unpredictable how Lisa’s body will respond! To continue following Lisa we will keep updating the gofundme, but you can also follow these blog updates, and we will periodically announce upcoming events on Lisa’s behalf! Thank you for your support!
